In this inaugural episode of ‘Sup, Moms? Podcast, you’ll get to know the hostesses, Megan & Jess in a fun Q&A episode.
Where did you grow up?
Jess: A suburb of Cincinnati called Loveland.
Megan: Also a suburb of Cincinnati…but about 40 minutes away from Loveland.
Where do you live now?
Jess: Recording live from my parents’ house outside of Atlanta.
Megan: Suburb of Chicago.
Who is in your family?
Jess: Vinn, Luke (2) and dog (Copley).
Megan: Sebastian & our two girls, Marin (2), Eve (5 months).
Favorite things about Cincinnati?
Megan: Graeter’s Ice Cream, Skyline Chili.
What were you doing pre-motherhood?
Jess: Graduated with a degree in Advertising and Marketing, moved to Michigan, then Vinn took a 3 year work assignment to Germany where Luke was born .
Megan: Graduated with International Business, Marketing and Spanish. Got a job where I was interning and later moved to Chicago to work at an advertising agency. I met my husband there.
What’s the first thing you noticed about the other?
Megan: A clear memory of when we first met in the hallway of Cobeen. You said, “I’m Jess and I’m from Loveland.” WHAT?!
Jess: I remember being in the dining hall and coming up to you and saying I’m the one from Cincinnati. Then a few days later I called you to get ice cream.
First time you felt like a mom:
Jess: When I was pregnant and had to go to the hospital after being very sick. And really wanted to go home but I had to stay because I wanted to do what was best for the baby.
Megan: I was listening to a podcast on my way to work and they had Jessi Klein on and she said how there will be a time before a kid, during a kid and there will be the after. And I was sobbing walking into work. That was the first time I thought, “Wow. I am going to be somebody’s mom.”
Jessi Klein, You’ll Grow Out of It
What’s harder, going from 0 to 1 kid or 1 to 2?
Jess: I assume going from 1 to 2. But I have no idea.
Megan: 0 to 1 kid because you have no idea what’s happening with your body, what you’re doing when you get home.
Rose and thorn of being a mom:
Jess: Rose is seeing the world through their eyes. Thorn is crying and whining as a toddler.
Megan: Thorn is the repetitive question asking. I remind myself, “Their brains don’t work. Their brains don’t work.” Rose, though, is that kids say the darndest things.
