On this episode of ‘Sup, Moms? Podcast, we’re gearing up for summer with some of our tips for traveling with toddlers!
Here are some notes from the episode with our tips:
- Jess and her husband flew back to the US from Germany when Luke was 3 months old
- Arrived in Atlanta then drove to Michigan via Nashville
- Luke has been on two 12-hour car trips!
- Travel Tips:
- The younger, smaller they are, the easier they travel
- Try to schedule around nap time to increase the chances they’ll sleep, but throw the expectation of naps out the window
- If you’re by yourself, focus on keeping everyone safe in the event of a tantrum
- The trip will end; you will reach your destination eventually, then celebrate!
- Download episodes on your device ahead of time
- Flying Tips:
- Feed on takeoff and landing to help clear their ears from the pressure
- Take breaks walking up and down the aisle
- Get them their own seat when possible
- Don’t wear the baby through airport security
- Gate-check the stroller with similar gate check bag
- Get a new toy to open on the plane
- Car Tips:
- Keep a basket of toys/snacks within reach for you to hand them or to get themselves
- Have someone sit in the back with the kid(s) if possible
- Keep a potty and toilet paper in the car in case you need to stop where there isn’t a restroom
- Bring a travel sound machine
- Dream Travel Plans:
- Jess’ family will be driving to their new house in July
- Megan’s family would like to go somewhere nearby to a lake or national park
